Always located in Geneva, the gallery was focusing on minimal and conceptual artists from the 1960s and 1970s : Robert Barry, Sol LeWitt, On Kawara, etc., but showed also the production of the 1980s.
After several exhibitions of young artists (Steven Parrino, Michael Scott, Steve di Benedetto, Michel Verjux, etc.) and some investigations into the photographic field (Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin, Robert Mapplethorpe, Paul McCarthy, Larry Clark), Pierre Huber decided to develop this confrontation between historical works and new trends.
So, under the name of Art &38; Public (since 1992) have been produced exhibitions of Sylvie Fleury, Ulrich Meister, Fischli / Weiss, Mariko Mori, Noritoshi Hirakawa, Lily van der Stokker, Chuck Nanney, Alix Lambert, John Tremblay but also of John Armleder, On Kawara, Olivier Mosset, Sol LeWitt, Bernar Venet, Helmut Federle and John McCracken.
The gallery has inaugurated in 1992 a policy of guest curators and has extended its publication program of artists, books and catalogues (Herbert Hamak, John McCracken, On Kawara, Steven Parrino, etc. for further information please see our list of publications).
Art &38; Public also has a separate exhibition space, the Guest Room, dedicated to special artists&39; projects, often video installations, whereas the outside walls of the gallery are used for wall paintings.
The gallery is located next to the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (the MAMCO) and the Center of Contemporary Art (the CAC), and close to a number of other contemporary art galleries, thus creating a dynamic atmosphere and constant dialogue with these institutions and colleagues.
