Darya Tsymbalyuk

In ‘disruptions’ I explore the disintegration of the form to an extend that the line between realism and abstraction, between beauty and horror becomes indistinguishable. Carefully studying wounds and working with them realistically, I turn them into abstract landscapes. Decontextualising and deterritorialising injuries, I aim to create space for new forms, new openings, new possibilities. Both formally and thematically I move away from something tangible, particular and concrete toward abstraction and universality: from a conflict in Ukraine to a contemplation on impermanence, from flesh to surface. This movement, this flight, this process allows new things to grow. Thus, a wound becomes a rupture, a disruption, a break, and a body becomes a sleeping surface, a land. In the end, it is not clear what we are looking at. All there is, is merely a matter in becoming.
