Short Bio:
As a graphic designer, I experienced the Internet boom and the Web 1.0 era. I began to explore how new technologies were affecting language and the way we related to each other. This emerges led me to work with the subjectivity of forms and the meaning of Emojis or emoticons, which emerged due to the need to express intention and emotion in this new form of communication. This path led me to work with virtual beings, who, in the form of emotionally charged portraits, made me reflect on how increasingly invasive technology directly impacts our lives. The emotional and social impact it has on a form of human condition that is here to stay. Twenty years after my beginnings, we found ourselves deeply immersed in Web 2.0 and social media. We live in a world where Artificial Intelligence has become integrated into everyday tasks, and we are on the verge of the incorporation of the Metaverse as a collective space. I believe it is important to reflect on this shift towards Web 3.0, to raise awareness about the fact that, by losing physical presence, we lose our primary vehicle of experience and with it, our first instance of perception and expression. While we embrace technology with great enthusiasm, it is important to consider the social issues that come with shifting paradigms.
Concept or discourse:
As an artist, I embark on an interdisciplinary quest for artistic possibilities, blending an electronic foundation with classical techniques of painting, objet d'art, and installation. My work is a reflection on the relationship between technology and humanity, focusing on the exploration of our condition as beings that exist both virtually and in reality. I am concerned about the swiftness with which technology has permeated our lives and how it can negatively impact our existence, the environment, and society as a whole. I believe that technology is so dominant that it is challenging to envision a future where we can control it and safeguard our freedom and voice. However, despite valuing our human essence, I fear that our ability to remain objective and shape technology may not be sufficient to shield us from its negative influence. I deeply believe that art is common ground between the artist and the viewer, a platform that transcends personal narratives and impacts us all. It is a moment of pause to reflect on our surroundings and ourselves.
