Short Bio:
Uma Haime was born in Salerno, in the south of Italy. She has been experimenting since her teens with different artistic languages such as dance, theatre and painting. At Bologna University, after discovering the Asian theatre, she became fascinated by rituals, religion and oriental mysticism, which are now the core of her artistic investigation. Living in London, Paris, Seville, Naples, Rome and Prague became a training ground for an artistic sensibility.
Concept or discourse:
My creations float between Mediterranean influences, linguistic misunderstandings, oriental mysticism and childish curiosity. Born in the south of Italy, I studied the anthropology of theatre and had a performance group before starting up my painting practice. In my abstract images, movement and explosive colours continuously negotiate with the need for calm, silence and patience. I focus on magic, introspection and universal laws. The (W)holed paintings: In these last years, I defined defined my own painting technique,. I paint by placing the canvas or paper on a very damaged surface and later fixing it on the frame; my brushstrokes are made with mason's brushes. I have has defined this way of painting as "(W)holed painting," signing my own style. The black spots that fill the white voids represent intuitions. The dance of these two opposites perfectly narrates the dialogue between the material and immaterial which is the topic that fascinates me the most. Art is the most lyrical way I know of so far through which to share my spiritual journey with other human beings.
