Thomas Ruff

Thomas Ruff is a contemporary German photographer and prominent member of the D?sseldorf School. Best known for his large-scale, color photographic series of domestic interiors, private sexual acts, and abstract digital compositions, Ruff?s work is inspired by his teachers, Bernd and Hilla Becher, whose practice of documentary photography was similarly systematic and objective. Under Bernd Becher?s tutelage at the Kunstakademie D?sseldorf from 1977?1985, Ruff?along with fellow classmates Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, and Candida H?fer?was exposed to the work of Stephen Shore and Joel Meyerowitz. Born on February 10, 1958 in Zell am Harmersbach, Germany, Ruff work?s is characterized by his use of clear, unadorned imagery, and a ?relative conceptual seriality of subject.?
