Nicola Guastamacchia

My critical practice is funded on interdisciplinarity, collaboration and a constant questioning of the place of art in society. I make use of publications, photos, posters and installations as a strategy to address established conceptions of membership, masculinity and freedom. Writing, printing, displacing and reassembling are complementary tools for the theoretical and sculptural re-elaboration of facts, stories and information, which extends to my personal website. Temporary and collaborative projects, both research and practice-based, constitute a core element of my critical practice. Collaboration with other artists is central to transform the exhibition-form into an ongoing experimental process. Critical writing, with a focus on the contemporary relation of art, politics and aesthetics, also provides crucial inspiration to my artistic research.
