The Esther Schipper gallery, founded in 1989 in Cologne, has resumed its name after ten years of collaboration with Michael Krome from 1994 until 2004 when the gallery was known by the name Schipper & Krome.
From 1995 on, parallel to the its space in Cologne, the gallery held a project space in Berlins emerging gallery quarter on Auguststrasse 91 where it was permanently installed in 1997. In 2001 the gallery moved to a new and more spacious location on Linienstrasse, in the same area of Berlin.
The gallerys artist list comprises artists who have been with the gallery from its start in 1989 and who meanwhile have gained international reputation, such as Angela Bulloch, Liam Gillick, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Carsten Höller and Philippe Parreno. In Berlin the programme was enriched by already known artists – Thomas Demand and Ugo Rondinone – and by lesser or unknown names – Matti Braun, Christoph Keller, RothStauffenberg. More recently Nathan Carter, Ann Veronica Janssens, GrönlundNisunen and finally Ceal Floyer were added to the gallerys artist list.
Parallel to its exhibition activities the gallery regularly participates in different art fairs, like ARCO Madrid, Art Basel, Artforum Berlin, FIAC Paris, frieze London and Art Basel Miami Beach.
