Opened in the autumn of 1995 in the immediate vicinity of Triestes principal square, Piazza dellUnitˆ dItalia, the LipanjePuntin Artecontemporanea constitutes both a goal and a point of departure in the activities of Cristina Lipanje and Marco Puntin, established for many years now in the national and international market. Indeed, their reluctance to work solely within the contemporary Italian scene has led these two young art dealers to an invigorating collaboration, private and public, with those countries closest to Italys north-eastern border, namely Austria, Slovenia and Croatia. In so doing, however, they have not lost sight of the more cosmopolitan foreign markets such as South America and, in particular, the United States. Nor have the links they have forged with important international artists and galleries prevented Cristina Lipanje and Marco Puntin from supporting and promoting the work of young artists – a decision which derives from their conviction that contemporary art is born of those pasons and courageous choices which succeed in renewing the market, liberating it from the paralyzing effect of its established figures.
