Anri Sala
Anri Sala was born in 1974, in Tirana, Albania. He studied painting at the National Academy of Arts in Tirana from 1992 to 1996, receiving a BA; video at the ?cole Nationale Sup?rieure des Arts D?coratifs in Paris from 1996 to 1998; and film directing at Le Fresnoy, Studio National des Arts Contemporains, in Tourcoing, France, from 1998 to 2000. At the 1999 Venice Biennale, Sala presented Intervista?Finding the Words (1998), a video in which Sala is seen confronting his mother with old footage of her participating in a Communist rally during Albania?s traumatic past. The video Nocturnes (1999) also features interviews, this time with a fish collector and a mercenary, who tell stories of their lives, which are remarkably different at the outset but bear an uncanny similarity in the end.
