Elisaberth Rosenthal
Elisabeth was born 1981 in Berlin and raised in Dresden/Germany. She lives and works in Dresden and Berlin. She studied at Central Saint Martins School of Art and Design and at Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Dresden.
Since 2008, the sculptor and performance artist Elisabeth Rosenthal has been working with her alter ego Sailor-Single, a complex persona which is modeled after a female sailor pinup. She always wears a heroic white belt and likes to be driven around in fancy cars. In her performance installations she creates new forms by imitating and retelling different topics of cultural history. Whether we consider „Trobadix“ (2011), where she plays a classical piano piece on a paper piano, or „Baroque-Impro“ (2015), where she improvises baroque style music on her synth, or „Birdywork“ (2008), where she whistles flirtatiously to her audience, all her creations seem to have found guidance in taking on popular matters and inventions that have come before. Starting from drawing and sculpture, Elisabeth has developed her artistic position in which performance and installation combine into a complex whole. She performs in her ever shifting installations and shows the audience how her objects are to be treated.
